It was a proud day for Manguard Plus and Moorefield GAA Club recently when Eoin Murtagh was appointed as the first ever Games Promotion Officer.
The full time role was created with the support of Manguard Plus and sees Eoin covering all primary schools in the Newbridge catchment area promoting Football , hurling and camogie to young schoolchildren.
He says “It’s a dream job to me and it wouldn’t have happened without the support of Manguard Plus. It’s truly an historic appointment for Moorefield as it’s the first time in history they have had a full time Games Promotion Officer. Really as MD of Manguard Plus and a committed Moorefield man, Sean Hall has driven this initiative. His unstinting support has created the possibility of a full time role becoming a reality and I was the lucky one who was appointed to the role”.
“I share Sean’s passion for getting kids involved in sport from a young age; it is absolutely brilliant for them and helps them so much in their young lives. It gives huge confidence and a huge sense of camaraderie and that is so important”.
“I go into all the Primary Schools in the Newbridge area on a rotational basis. Sean’s help has been unbelievable. He makes my job so much easier as I have all the gear going into the schools, for example the footballs for on the sport training sessions with the kids, I have everything I need”.
“The kids look forward to me coming, we’re all friends now and the atmosphere is fantastic. I am so excited about where we’re going with his initiative. Already the interest in football , hurling and camogie has jumped in the catchment area and is set to grow further. We’re on the up and it’s only going to get better”.
“We have 250 or so kids training and playing in Moorefield every Saturday morning and the buzz is brilliant. They love the fact that they’re out in the fresh air, honing their GAA Skills and having fun with their friends and team mates”.
Sean Hall, Managing Director Manguard Plus, main sponsors for the Club and who have provided the funding for the appointment of the GPO, says
“I have been involved with Moorefield for many years ,both as a coach and trainer with the Mini Moore’s ,and it is a huge step forward to have Eoin onboard”.
“He has the energy and skills to drive the Club further through the attraction of new young players and help foster a life long love for GAA”.
“Eoin’s appointment is the realisation of a long term vision for Moorefield and I am delighted to see it come to fruition”
